The annual marquee pre-season friendly is the start of our season here at For Fox Sake, which means we are back with our 'Five Things We Learned' feature, as we look back at the 1-0 loss to Serie A side Genoa on Saturday evening.
Despite the result, there was much to be positive about as new boss Russell Martin's clear identity was there for all to see. They gave as good as they got against the top-flight Italian side, and for good swathes of the game, looked the more complete side.
As has dogged us over the last few seasons, the winning goal came from a mistake at the back, giving Martin much to ponder as he looks to settle on a team ahead of the first competitive fixture next week in the Carabao Cup, at home to Northampton Town.
