Football is back! Well, kind of.
The 2026/27 season curtain-raiser is an interesting one – an EFL Cup First Round tie against Northampton Town.
It’s only the third time in history that the League Cup has kicked off before the Football League season; the other two occasions were 2020/21 and 2021/22 which were both affected by Covid-19.
We kicked off pre-season with a 3-0 win against Northampton on 11th July, wrapped up inside 22 minutes with goals from Stephy Mavididi, Riley Carr and Will Alves, and we kick-off the competitive season against the Cobblers exactly four weeks later.
