Leicester took all the momentum they could muster from their gutsy second half performance against Manchester United last week. But unfortunately it was to no avail, as they were subject to a merciless beating by the current WSL leaders.
Leicester started very well with an early, albeit offside, chance for Alisha Lehmann, only for Man City to mount serious pressure with Bunny Shaw capitalising first. Her header was followed up with a thunderous Vivianne Miedema strike to extend the Citizens’ lead.
Leicester rallied almost immediately and were again unlucky not to score after some brilliant build-up play saw Shannon O’Brien’s rebound attempt rocket off the crossbar.
Man City’s Lauren Hemp continued to exploit the left-hand side and set Miedema up to secure her brace after some poor transitional defence from Leicester. Hasegawa then stretched their lead to 4-0 just before the break.
