City striker Patson Daka bagged his first goal for Zambia in 20 months in their opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring a superb stoppage-time header to rescue a point against Mali.

Leicester’s no.20 made an excellent run between the centre-backs to make a crisp connection with his diving header to seal a 1-1 draw for his nation in their first Group A fixture, denying fellow Fox Woyo Coulibaly, on loan at Sassuolo, a clean sheet.

The celebration that followed was not quite so smooth; Daka attempted the cartwheel into somersault celebration sometimes seen at the King Power Stadium, but landed flat on his face.

Elsewhere in Group A, Bilal El Khannouss, on loan at VfB Stuttgart from City, came off the bench for Morocco in the hosts’ curtain-raiser against minnows Comoros.
