Ex-Leicester loanee Ademola Lookman curled in a clinical opener and notched two assists as Nigeria swept aside Mozambique to progress to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The attacking midfielder was one of three former Foxes in the Super Eagles' side, with Wilfred Ndidi captaining them from the centre of the park, and Calvin Bassey at the heart of the defence.

Mozambique had never made it to the AFCON knockout stages before, and were behind after just 20 minutes thanks to Lookman's lovely finish. Talismanic striker Victor Osimhen made it 2-0 in the 25th minute, before Lookman set up two second-half strikes to clinch a convincing 4-0 victory.

Lookman, who scored eight times in 42 games during his loan spell at Leicester in 2021-22, leads the AFCON assists chart with four, and is second in the race for the Golden Boot having scored three goals - one less than Morocco's Brahim Diaz.
