Morocco are one step away from their first Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 50 years after beating Nigeria on penalties in a tense and atmospheric semi-final.

The Atlas Lions made the most of a vociferous home crowd as they secured a 4-2 shootout victory, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou making two saves and Fenerbahçe's Youssef En-Nesyri dispatching the winning spot-kick.

Leicester's Bilal El Khannouss, on loan at VfB Stuttgart, lined up for the hosts against two former Foxes in Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey, with Super Eagles skipper Wilfred Ndidi missing out through suspension.

It was 0-0 after 90 minutes and remained goalless after extra-time, despite Morocco creating a number of chances. In terms of possession, the game was fairly even, but Morocco peppered the Nigeria goal with 16 shots, five of which found the target.
