Few players at Leicester City divide opinion quite like Jannik Vestergaard. Since arriving in 2021, the towering centre-back has oscillated between scapegoat and steady performer, depending largely on Leicester’s broader fortunes.

Yet with Jamaal Lascelles struggling for fitness and the Foxes navigating another demanding run-in, the Dane’s importance may be growing at exactly the right time - both for the team and for emerging defender Ben Nelson.

Vestergaard’s Leicester story has never been straightforward. After making 19 appearances in his debut Premier League season, he fell completely out of favour during the 2022-23 campaign and did not feature at all as the club slid towards relegation.

That absence fed a narrative among supporters that Leicester were better off without him, particularly given concerns about his lack of pace in high defensive lines. However, his reintegration under Enzo Maresca in the Championship began to reshape the conversation.
