Of all the words written about Manchester City’s financial case over the last 15 years, perhaps none sum up the story better than that sentence.

It appeared in the group of hacked emails published by German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018. According to the reporting, City executive Simon Pearce used those words when asked whether payment dates connected to Abu Dhabi sponsorship arrangements could simply be changed. Manchester City disputed the context of the leaked material.
