There are some transfers that immediately grab the attention, and then there are the ones that perhaps make a little more sense the longer you think about them. Leicester City’s deadline-day signing of John Lundstram feels like it could fall into the latter category.

The 32-year-old arrives at the King Power Stadium with a career that has taken him from Everton’s academy into the Football League, the Premier League, Scottish football and Turkey, with his most recent experience coming in the Championship with Hull City.

Lundstram spent last season on loan with the Tigers having spent the previous season at Super Lig side Trabzonspor and, while an injury interrupted his campaign, he remained an important part of the squad as Hull pushed towards promotion.
