I've always loved watching the Socceroos.

My family emigrated from Leicester to Australia when I was young, so I had front row seats to the resurgence of football down under. In 2005 Australia booked their return to the World Cup after a 32 year absence, beating Uruguay on penalties. I was in the stadium for that incredible moment in Sydney, a moment I didn't think could be topped.

Watching the Socceroos beat Türkiye 2-0 in Vancouver on Saturday night was even better.

A 9pm kickoff on a beautiful sunny day gave plenty of time for everyone to enjoy the city and the party atmosphere. Vancouver has been my home since 2010 so there was no need to see the tourist spots, freeing me up to enjoy a quiet couple of beers near the stadium.
