Harry Souttar’s time at Leicester City has never quite unfolded the way many expected when he arrived in January 2023. Signed from Stoke City after an outstanding World Cup campaign with Australia in Qatar, the towering centre-back arrived with significant momentum behind him.

Leicester believed they were bringing in a defender entering his prime years: one with the physical dominance, aerial ability and defensive presence to strengthen a backline that had struggled throughout that Premier League season.

However, Souttar walked into a club in the middle of a crisis. Leicester were battling relegation and confidence within the squad was fragile.

While the Australian international showed glimpses of the qualities that made him such a highly regarded defender in the Championship, the instability around him made it difficult for any new signing to immediately settle.
