This weekend, Leicester City Women return to WSL2 action for the first time in five seasons following relegation from the top flight last season.
The Foxes finished 12th last season, picking just nine points from 22 matches and after a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal it was confirmed they would face a relegation play off against Charlton Athletic. The tie finished 0-0 over the 90 minutes before Leicester were beaten 2-1 on penalties, sealing their relegation.
Scotland international Sophie Howard made over 100 appearances for the Foxes between 2021 and 2025 before making the move to Serie A club Como.
When asked on For Fox Sake – The Women’s Football Show what Leicester’s target should be going into the new season, she said she would be “very surprised if the target’s not promotion,” reflecting both the club’s ambition and the expectation that they should be competing with the top clubs.
