When former Leicester loanee Harry Kane sat on the King Power bench alongside a struggling Jamie Vardy, few would have thought that he’d be the man to step up on the big stage to secure England’s place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

The Three Lions skipper scored in the 75th and 86th minute to single-handedly help England avoid a disastrous defeat to DR Congo, setting up a thrilling tie against co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Monday morning at 1am.

His movement freed him up in the box to head home Anthony Gordon’s cross for the first, and the second was sublime, as he shifted the ball to the right, away from the defender, and powered in an unstoppable finish from just inside the box.
